چکیده

Human infants use top-down information to learn the sound category of their language. A new study using an artificial language containing species-specific vocalizations shows that songbirds may rely on a similar mechanism.

O17: The Analytic Model of Talent

The secret of success for organizations is the discovery and application of their employees' “talent.” Yet, the most important matter is for individuals to discover their own top talent. Research findings show that each individual has his or her own unique inborn and acquired feature, including special temperament instinct and innateness. Humans’ temperaments and instincts act...

Innate and learned components of human visual preference

BACKGROUND Recent claims in neuroscience and evolutionary biology suggest that the aesthetic sense reflects preferences for image signals whose characteristics best fit innate brain mechanisms of visual recognition. RESULTS This hypothesis was tested by behaviourally measuring, for a set of initially unfamiliar images, the effects of category learning on preference judgements by humans, and b...

Neural Dynamics of Autistic Behaviors

Category learning. This process enables variations on the same object or event to learn how to activate the same category, or symbol, that represents this object or event in the brain. Activating such a learned category enables the brain to recognize the object or event through a process that includes read-out of the category's learned top-down expectation, which focuses attention upon the crit...

Toxicity comparison of silver nanoparticles synthesized by physical and chemical methods to tadpole (Rana ridibunda)

One of the possible threats in increasing use of nanomaterials is the emergence of toxicity in humans and other animals which is discussed in nanotoxicology. In addition to toxic effects of nanomaterials themselves, different chemical precursors which are usually used in bottom-up approaches for production of nanomaterials may have secondary toxic effects in living organisms. In contrast, less ...

Adaptive learning in a compartmental model of visual cortex—how feedback enables stable category learning and refinement

The categorization of real world objects is often reflected in the similarity of their visual appearances. Such categories of objects do not necessarily form disjunct sets of objects, neither semantically nor visually. The relationship between categories can often be described in terms of a hierarchical structure. For instance, tigers and leopards build two separate mammalian categories, both o...
